Portal Screen and Basic Navigation

Overview: Portal Page & Basic Navigation

The Portal dashboard displays several modules that contain user-specific alerts, updates, and notifications, as well as useful links to easily navigate within Focus. From the Portal, users will see available software updates (administrators only), pending deadlines, event reminders, links to Focus programs, and alerts to update grade/attendance/discipline data. Each profile type has a customized Portal dashboard, and the modules have been selected and arranged with the Portal Editor. In addition to the Portal dashboard, administrators can include additional dashboards for user profiles. The following sections of this documentation provide information for:

  • Main Menu, Basic Navigation, & Additional Dashboards

Overview: Main Menu, Basic Navigation, & Additional Dashboards

  • The Focus main menu organizes every program and feature of your Focus SIS. Main menu options are profile-specific.
  • Basic navigation tools are at the top of every screen, and manage the displays and accessibility to programs and data. Basic navigation tools enable users to select other profiles, schools, academic years, and marking quarters.
  • If a district has purchased the Focus ERP, a “Finance” button enables administrators to switch from the SIS to the ERP.

Return to Portal

The logo in the top left corner of the screen will return you to the Portal dashboard. This logo will likely be school’s or district’s logo.

Profile Pull-Down Menu

The profile drop-down menu enables users with multiple profile types to use Focus as their different profiles, which have different options and settings, and can be set up differently in My Preferences.

If a user only has one profile type, they will not see this menu and their profile type will be displayed instead. NOTE: administrators can view as any user from the User Info screen.

School Drop-Down Menu

The school drop-down menu enables users involved with multiple schools to access profile-specific information for the selected school. A filter box is located at the top of the menu, and enables users to quickly limit the menu options with a name search that updates with matching options instantly.

If a user only has access to one school, they will not see this menu and the school name will be displayed instead.

Academic Year Drop-Down Menu

The academic year drop-down menu enables users to view profile-specific data from previous years, and is used for many functions (like Rollovers). When a previous year is selected, the main header will turn blue. A filter box is located at the top of the menu, and enables users to quickly limit the menu options with an entry search that updates with matching options instantly.

Marking Period Drop-Down Menu

The marking period drop-down menu enables users to view profile-specific data from previous marking periods of the selected academic year. The menu options correspond with the settings in Marking Periods. A filter box is located at the top of the menu, and enables users to quickly limit the menu options with an entry search that updates with matching options instantly.

Additional Dashboards

If additional dashboards have been created with the Portal Editor, they are accessible from the grey sub-tabs in the top left corner of the screen. Information to set up Additional Dashboards is provided in the Portal Editor help page.

Additional Dashboards display visual graphs of the data that specific users need to track and review. Like the Portal dashboard, administrators can customize Additonal Dashboards, select the profile type, and arrange items on the dashboard.
